On July 27, 2024, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Ministry of Finance and the private sector formalized a contract to install 33 electronic scanners across 12 customs ports in Afghanistan. This initiative, backed by an 8 billion AFN investment, aims to bolster security and curb smuggling. The advanced scanners will be deployed at Torkham, Hairatan, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala, Torghundi, Nimroz, Abu Nasr Farahi, Khost, Paktia, Aqina, and Sher Khan ports to ensure comprehensive screening of all types of goods. This investment plan received approval from the Inter-Ministerial Investment Committee and was sanctioned by the Economic Commission. The project is slated for completion within two years, providing approximately 2,000 job opportunities and representing a significant step forward in modernizing the country's customs infrastructure.
