Several major electricity projects’ construction work commenced and others inaugurated by the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs
Today, Thursday, December 25, 2025, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, launched the implementation of four projects and inaugurated five others out of a total of nine major electricity projects in Herat Province, with a total value of AFN 3.98 billion.
The Deputy PM described these projects as important for Afghanistan’s industrial and economic growth and stated that through their implementation, 24-hour electricity will be provided to all industrial parks in Herat Province, commercial centers, rural areas, and residential zones will gain access to electricity, and the country will achieve stable domestic power supply.
Deputy PM Mullah Baradar Akhund also announced good news for all investors who invest in the construction of cold storage facilities, stating that they will be granted a five-year tax exemption, and at the same time, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat will provide them with permanent electricity under all circumstances. He called on all domestic and foreign investors to take advantage of this opportunity.
The Deputy PM further called on all countries to adopt engagement-based policies instead of restrictive policies toward Afghanistan and to view the country’s current security stability as an important opportunity. He added that the international community should not expect engagement with the Islamic Emirate against its values. According to him, the Islamic Emirate has adopted a balanced policy toward all countries, with its full focus on Afghanistan’s economic development, security stability, and good governance.
At the conclusion, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund urged the officials of the contracting companies and technical teams to complete the newly launched projects with full quality and within the specified timeframe.
It is worth noting that the projects inaugurated today include the construction of a 130-kilometer-long 220-kilovolt transmission line from Turkmenistan, and the construction of four substations in the districts of Karukh, Pashtun Zarghun, Obei, and Chisht-e-Sharif. Through these projects, electricity will be supplied to 40,000 households.
Likewise, the newly launched projects include the construction of the Pul-e-Hashmi substation, the expansion of the 24-Houth Martyrs substation, the creation of a B line at the Noor-ul-Jihad substation, as well as the extension of power transmission lines between the Pul-e-Hashmi, Noor-ul-Jihad, and 24-Hut Martyrs substations.
