Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund met with Mirwais Azizi, Chief Executive Officer of Azizi Group
The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, met today, Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in his office with Mirwais Azizi, Chief Executive Officer of Azizi Group of Companies, and his technical team.
The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs welcomed the commencement of practical work on five major power generation projects with a capacity of 845 megawatts, related to the 10,000-megawatt project of Azizi Energy, and described them as significant in terms of creating employment opportunities and advancing economic growth in the country.
Mirwais Azizi expressed his gratitude to the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs and the officials of the relevant institutions for their full cooperation in all areas, stating that they have not faced any problems. He said they have realized that the Islamic Emirate has a firm commitment to the country’s development, and as a result of the efforts of sincere officials, contracts for the commencement of practical work on five major power generation projects were signed today.
Azizi added that by the end of the current year, they will also commence 15 to 20 additional power generation projects, with a total capacity reaching 5,000 megawatts.
The Chief Executive Officer of Azizi Group of Companies also expressed satisfaction that the work on the TAPI project is progressing well on Afghan soil, and that upon the arrival of gas to Herat province, in coordination with the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, they will begin the construction of major gas distribution networks and a large power generation plant with a capacity of 3,000 megawatts using gas.
He also requested joint cooperation with the relevant institutions in the exploration, extraction, and power generation from natural gas and coal. The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs and the officials of the relevant institutions assured full cooperation and joint work in the aforementioned areas.
