Contracts for Four Power Projects Worth USD 243 Million Signed with Uzbekistan

In the presence of the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, contracts for four electricity projects between Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) and Uzbekistan were signed today, August 17, 2025, at the Government Media and Information Center. The signing ceremony was also attended by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Joʻrabek Mirzamahmudov.

The projects include the 500 kV Surkhan–Dasht-e-Alwan transmission line with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts, the expansion of the Arghandi substation with a capacity of 800 MVA, the 220 kV Kabul–Sheikh Mesri transmission line with a capacity of 800 megawatts, and the construction of the Sheikh Mesri substation in Nangarhar with a capacity of 126 MVA.

Uzbekistan will invest approximately USD 243 million in these projects. Upon completion, Afghanistan will receive 800 to 1,000 megawatts of electricity from Uzbekistan, with the projects scheduled to be completed within 18 months.
