Draft of the National Minerals Policy Approved

The regular meeting of the Economic Commission, chaired by the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, was held today, August 24, 2025, at the Marmarin Palace.

In this meeting, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum presented the draft of the National Minerals Policy for discussion. After a comprehensive review by the Economic Commission, the draft of the National Minerals Policy was approved.

The objectives of this policy include: conducting surveys, exploration, and extraction of mines in a standardized manner; attracting domestic and foreign investors; introducing modern mining technologies and equipment; ensuring environmental protection and the health and safety of miners; enabling the processing of mineral resources within the country; and training as well as capacity-building of professional and technical human resources for the mining sector.

The meeting also discussed the adjustment in the scope of the contract for completing the remaining works of the 500 kV transmission line project from Sheberghan to Dasht-e Alwan. After detailed deliberations, the necessary adjustments were made to the said contract.

Furthermore, the committees established to conduct preliminary feasibility studies for the second phase of the Kamal Khan Dam (Qala Afzal Dam) and to assess the requirements of the country’s ports also presented their reports to the meeting.

These decisions were referred to the esteemed Office of the Amir-ul-Mu’minin, (may Allah protect him), for final approval.
