The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, attended the meeting held at the Salaam Khana Palace of Arg under the title of Waiver of Tax Penalties, Supporting Industry and Trade.Mullah Baradar Akhund said in a speech at the meeting attended by senior officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, “Tax is a major factor in ensuring a country's national revenues. In addition, it builds a country’s national budget and guarantees public safety, services, and welfare.” He further added that the national budget of Afghanistan is currently funded only by internal revenues, so it is their responsibility—particularly that of the Ministry of Finance—to guarantee transparent tax collection. Mr. Baradar Akhund also said that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is responsible for the people of the country, including businessmen and industrialists, so it is necessary to provide them with facilities in every area and protect their property and dignity. In another part of his address, Mr. Baradar Akhund mentioned tax exemption and claimed that because of the difficulties that come with the five-year and three-year reviews, most businesses living overseas are reluctant to visit the nation. He requested that the Ministry of Finance come up with a comprehensive solution to this issue and offer it to the Economic Commission of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan for consideration. In the end, he urged the businesspeople and industrialists to pay their taxes to the departments transparently so that the Islamic Emirate funds it budget with the internal revenues.
