Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, convened with officials from various United Nations agencies operating in Afghanistan on May 17th, in Baghlan province. Addressing the significant devastation inflicted by recent floods in Baghlan, the Deputy PM urged UN representatives to collaborate closely with the Islamic Emirate to expedite and amplify humanitarian assistance to flood-affected communities, particularly in crucial developmental sectors. Highlighting the extensive damage incurred, Mullah Baradar Akhund noted the destruction of 19 hospitals, 19 schools, 115 culverts, numerous water canals, and approximately 60 kilometers of roads in various districts of Baghlan province. Urgent reconstruction efforts and infrastructure rehabilitation are imperative. Expressing solidarity with the flood victims of Baghlan, representatives of the United Nations agencies pledged support and cooperation not only in humanitarian relief but also in developmental endeavors. They commended the swift response of Islamic Emirate rescue teams, which effectively rescued individuals stranded by the floods. Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Baradar Akhund issued a global appeal, urging all international aid organizations to extend assistance to the flood-stricken Afghan populace during this challenging period.
