National Procurement Commission Approves 21 Projects Worth Approximately AFN 2.5 Billion
The regular meeting of the National Procurement Commission, chaired by the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, was held today, January 27, 2026, at the Marmarin Palace. A total of 33 projects were presented to the meeting for approval.
Following discussions, 21 projects with an estimated value of approximately AFN 2.5 billion were approved, and a number of amendments were introduced to seven projects. In addition, one project was referred for re-tendering through an open national bidding process, and another project was suspended due to previous performance deficiencies of the winning company. A committee was appointed to conduct a comprehensive review of all existing contracts of the said company and to submit its report to the leadership of the National Procurement Commission after completion of the review. Furthermore, one project was returned to the relevant ministry due to procurement-related issues, and committees were assigned to review the prices of two projects, to negotiate with the winning companies in this regard, and to submit their reports to the leadership of the National Procurement Commission.
The approved and amended projects include the procurement of scanners for customs offices at the airports of Kabul, Herat, Nangarhar, Balkh, and Khost provinces; rehabilitation of the public road from Gardez to Khost; construction of police command headquarters buildings in Ghazni and Farah provinces; detailed design and feasibility studies for the Sultan Ibrahim Dam’s irrigation system in Sar-e-Pul province; electricity supply projects for the Sangcharak, Sozma Qala, and Gosfandi districts of Sar-e-Pul province; construction of public hospitals in Qala-e-Zal district of Kunduz province, Garmsir district of Helmand province, Shinwari district of Parwan province, Parchaman district of Farah province, Lakan district of Khost province, Warsaj district of Takhar province, Alasay district of Kapisa province, Shakardara district of Kabul province, and Darayem district of Badakhshan province; as well as the completion of remaining works of several electricity supply and distribution projects in various provinces.
The approved projects are funded by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
