Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund Launches Construction of an Industrial Park in Baghlan Province

The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, today (Friday), September 18, 2026, officially launched the construction of the Qutaybah ibn Saeed al-Baghlani Industrial Park in Baghlan Province.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund described economic independence as the foundation of political and cultural independence, stating that economic self-sufficiency can be achieved when industrial and productive activities are expanded and strengthened across all sectors within the country.
The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs further stated that, in order to strengthen the country’s economic growth, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has initiated the construction of industrial parks in various parts of the country, with the aim of processing raw materials domestically and exporting manufactured products to other countries. He said that this would gradually transform Afghanistan from a consumer-oriented country into a production-oriented one.
Regarding the reduction of unemployment and poverty in the country, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund said: “The time has come for us to withdraw the hands we have extended to the world for extensive imports and humanitarian assistance. We must make such use of our advantageous geographical location and vast economic potential that we bring unemployment and poverty within the country down to the lowest possible levels.”
The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs emphasized the importance of joint efforts by the Islamic Emirate and the Afghan people in achieving this objective, adding that the Islamic Emirate is taking important steps, including the establishment of industrial parks, to create long-term employment opportunities in the country.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund assured all citizens that the Islamic Emirate is making gradual and systematic efforts to address the country’s existing economic challenges. He further stated: “In the economic sector, we will establish a framework that generates employment itself. We will continue implementing necessary fiscal and monetary policies to ensure price stability and strengthen people’s purchasing power, and we will position Afghanistan as an important trading partner in the region.”
The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs called on regional and international economic organizations to end Afghanistan’s inactive presence in these organizations and facilitate its official and active participation as soon as possible. According to Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, this would enable Afghanistan to present and share its economic priorities, opportunities, and key discussions and proposals concerning economic engagement with the region and the world. This, in turn, would constitute an important step toward regional and global economic participation, technical cooperation, capacity building, and the realization of Afghanistan’s legitimate economic rights.
It is worth noting that the industrial park in Baghlan Province is being established on 1,679 jeribs of land. Once completed, it will provide industrialists with opportunities to operate and create employment opportunities for thousands of citizens.
