The Economic Commission Approved 69 Draft Standards and Quality Measures

A regular meeting of the Economic Commission was held today, Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the Marmarin Palace, chaired by the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund.
According to the agenda, 69 draft standards prepared by the Standards and Quality Authority were presented to the meeting for approval. Following comprehensive discussions, the drafts were approved, and the relevant institutions were instructed to ensure their proper implementation. Of the 69 drafts, 29 are testing methods, while the remaining are standards developed in the fields of management, petroleum products, medical equipment, telecommunications, chemical materials, agriculture and food products, mining, environmental protection, and construction materials.
During the meeting, a report was also presented regarding the technical, financial, and economic studies and activities related to the electricity supply project for six districts of Jowzjan Province. After discussions, the participants decided that a delegation should travel to the concerned districts and present its findings to the next meeting of the Economic Commission.
The meeting also discussed a proposal from the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum to award a contract to Construction Companies 77 for coal surface extraction in the Zora area of Dara-i-Suf Bala District of Samangan Province. The Economic Commission had previously decided that all aspects of the contract should be reviewed in accordance with established principles and that a final report should be submitted to the Office of the PM. In today’s meeting, it was decided that the matter would be presented to the Office of the PM after a comprehensive review.
Reports were also presented to the meeting regarding fuel contracts of government institutions by the designated committee, as well as concerning the 50-bed hospital in Aliabad District of Kunduz Province by the Ministry of Public Health. Following discussions, it was decided that a committee would comprehensively examine the fuel contracts issue and present its report at the Commission’s next meeting.
In today’s meeting of the Economic Commission, it was also decided that the Ministry of Public Health should construct a 30-bed hospital in Aliabad District of Kunduz Province.
