Today, on the 15th of July, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, officially inaugurated the bituminous project for the road from Arghandi to Durani Bazar. The ceremony was attended by Mullah Mohammad Essa Thani, the Acting Minister of Public Works, provincial officials from Kabul and Maidan Wardak, as well as representatives from the private sector. During his speech at the opening ceremony, Mullah Baradar Akhund highlighted the heavy traffic on the Kabul-Kandahar highway compared to other roads in the country. He expressed concern about the dust affecting the residents living along the road and the travelers. He emphasized the importance of the contractor companies completing the road construction promptly, ensuring high quality, honesty, and reliability. Furthermore, the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs emphasized the need for the contractor companies to water the sub-roads adjacent to the construction site to avoid causing any inconvenience to the surrounding houses. Representatives from the private sector also spoke at the gathering, highlighting the positive impact of the highway reconstruction on trade and transit from the southern region to the central and northern parts of the country. The reconstruction work of the Kabul-Kandahar highway is divided into seven sections. The Arghandi to Durani Bazar segment spans 27 kilometers, with a width of 11 meters. It includes two significant bridges of 50 and 80 meters and 60 culverts. The project costs one billion Afghanis and is expected to be completed within a year, facilitating easier travel. The construction is being carried out by the private sector with financial support from the Islamic Emirate.
