Today on October 10, 2024, a ten-year contract for the exploration and extraction of gas from the Totimaidan field, with an investment of around one billion dollars, was signed between the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and an Uzbek company in the presence of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs. According to the agreement, the contracting company will invest 100 million dollars in the first year and a total of one billion dollars over the course of ten years. In the first two years, the extracted gas will be used to generate 100 megawatts of gas-powered electricity.

The gas reserves of the Totimaidan field in Faryab province cover an area of approximately 7,000 square kilometers. Once extraction begins, it will significantly meet the country's gas needs and create both direct and indirect employment opportunities for thousands of citizens.
