Special Committees Appointed to Follow Up on Matters Finalized by IEA Delegation in Uzbekistan

In a meeting chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, special committees have been appointed to follow up on matters finalized during the economic delegation's visit to Uzbekistan. The meeting, held July 9, 2024, at Marmarin Palace, included officials from relevant sectoral ministries and agencies. The discussion focused on expanding bilateral trade and transit relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, achieving a balanced trade exchange, increasing the number of cargo trucks, extending the operational hours of the Hairatan port to 24 hours, establishing a joint commercial chamber, utilizing the Afghan-Uzbek joint trade center in Termez, finalizing quarantine-related agreements, and encouraging Uzbek investments in Afghanistan's iron, copper, and coal mines. The committees were also tasked with exploring the establishment of a cement production plant in Afghanistan, extending the railway network from Termez-Mazar-e-Sharif to Herat and Kandahar with Uzbekistan's cooperation, expanding the Naibabad station, and securing Uzbek investment in the Surkhan-Pul-e-Khumri electricity transmission project. The assigned committees are expected to follow up on these matters diligently and present their reports to the office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs within the specified timelines.
