On September 17, 2025, the technical team of the Office of the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs conducted an on-site inspection of the second phase of the Khairkhana Kotal Road project. During the monitoring visit, the technical team instructed the officials of the contracting company to ensure strict compliance with road construction technical standards, quality, and transparency, and to complete the works within the planned timeline. The team also assured the company of full cooperation and support.

The contracting company officials assured the technical team that, in full adherence to all standards, the works would be completed before the arrival of winter. The head of the company stated that, under the terms of the contract, a period of 20 working months had been allocated for this project. So far, 16 months have been completed and 4 months remain. He further noted that, in line with the plan, all works would be finalized within the remaining four months and delivered for public use.

The second phase of Khairkhana Kotal Road has a length of 2.5 kilometers and a width of 60 meters, of which 62 percent of the works have already been completed. This road connects 14 northern provinces of the country with Kabul city, and in addition to the main carriageway, it includes pedestrian walkways, drainage systems, green medians, traffic signs, and all components of a standard road. Upon completion, the project will reduce traffic congestion and accidents in Kabul city, facilitate commuting for citizens, and contribute to the expansion of modern urban transport.

The total cost of the project amounts to 391 million Afghanis, financed through the Kabul Municipality budget.

It is worth noting that the project was inaugurated on April 28, 2024 by the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund.
