Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, on December 30, 2025, met at the Marmarin Palace with a delegation led by Jabbar Ali Zakeri, Head of the Railway Authority of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in the presence of the Iranian Ambassador to Kabul.

During the meeting, both sides discussed economic relations, trade, and cooperation between Afghanistan and Iran, as well as collaboration in the development of railway infrastructure.

Jabbar Ali Zakeri, Head of Iran’s Railway Authority, stated that Iran seeks to expand its railway network through Afghanistan in order to connect, via this route, to China and, by utilizing Afghanistan’s strategic location, to Europe. He proposed the establishment of a joint committee in this regard and the initiation of discussions with relevant companies.

Subsequently, the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs stated that he had discussed the significance of this project three years earlier with the Vice President of Iran and had provided information on its economic value. He added that a joint committee should be established in this area and that practical work should begin as soon as possible.
