Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund Meets Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy

The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, met today, August 17, 2025, in his office with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, and the accompanying delegation. During the meeting, both sides discussed the expansion of economic relations, particularly cooperation in the energy sector.
The Deputy PM stated that on the sidelines of the 17th ECO Summit, he had a productive meeting with Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev regarding political, economic, and trade relations between Kabul and Tashkent. He added that today, in pursuit of the decisions made during that meeting, several important energy project agreements were signed in Kabul between Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) and Uzbekistan. He requested the Uzbek side to pay special attention to ensuring the timely completion and quality of these projects.
Following this, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, delivered remarks. He said that the President of Uzbekistan supports Afghanistan’s economic development and stability and, to this end, attaches special importance to strengthening economic relations and enhancing cooperation between Tashkent and Kabul. Mr. Mirzamahmudov further stated that they are fully prepared to implement the mentioned projects on time and with high quality, and that practical work in cooperation with Afghan companies in the construction sector will begin very soon. He added that Uzbekistan is ready to share its expertise with Afghanistan in the fields of energy, agriculture, mining, industry, healthcare, and professional training.
