Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund’s Visit to Aid Flood Victims in Baghlan Province
On May 11, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, traveled to Baghlan province to assist flood victims, express solidarity, and enhance coordination between aid and rescue agencies.
Meeting with Baghlan Officials
Deputy PM Mullah Baradar Akhund departed Kabul on the afternoon of May 11 and arrived in Baghlan late that night. Upon arrival, he convened with provincial officials, reviewed initial data, and instructed them to deploy more teams and resources to rescue those affected.
Consultation with Provincial Agency Heads
On the morning of May 12, the Deputy PM met with the heads of all provincial agencies. He directed the formation of separate committees for each district to accurately assess casualties and the extent of damage.
Engagement with Flood-Affected Residents
In the afternoon, the Deputy PM visited central Baghlan district and met residents from Burka, and Nahrin districts. He assured them of the Islamic Emirate’s full support and promised transparent aid distribution.
Inspection of Nearby Flood-Affected Areas
On May 13, the Deputy PM inspected the damage in nearby flood-affected areas, directing aid teams to prioritize central Baghlan and Burka districts due to the high level of casualties and damage.
Meeting with the Ulema Council of Baghlan
Later on May 13, the Deputy PM met with the Ulema Council of Baghlan Province, advising them to support and uplift the morale of affected citizens, reaffirming the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to their welfare.
Visit to Karkar Area in Pul-e-Khumri City
On May 14, the Deputy PM visited the Karkar flood-affected area in Pul-e-Khumri city, delivering food, medicines, clothes, tents, and additional cash and food aid to the affected region.
Discussion with Qatar’s Humanitarian Aid Head
On May 15, in Burka district, the Deputy PM met with Mashal Al-Hajri, Qatar’s head of humanitarian aid. He thanked Qatar for its support, emphasizing that such cooperation strengthens bilateral relations. Al-Hajri expressed sympathy for the flood victims and highlighted Qatar’s intention to alleviate their suffering.
Meeting with Burka District Scholars
On May 16, the Deputy PM met with scholars from Burka district. The scholars expressed gratitude for the timely aid and rescue efforts and discussed various issues with the Deputy PM, who assured them of solutions.
Dialogue with Flood Victims of Burka and Nahrin Districts
Later on May 16, the Deputy PM met with flood victims from Burka and Nahrin districts. He informed them that survey teams were assessing the damage to homes, agricultural lands, water canals, and livestock. He assured comprehensive assistance based on the survey results.
Consultation with United Nations Agency Representatives
On May 17, the Deputy PM met with representatives from various United Nations agencies in Baghlan. He detailed the flood damage and urged them to coordinate with the Islamic Emirate to expedite both humanitarian aid and development assistance. The UN representatives assured their cooperation.
Return to Kabul
After a seven-day visit to Baghlan province to assist and support flood victims, Deputy PM Mullah Baradar Akhund returned to Kabul on the morning of May 18.
