Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Inspects Work on the Salang Highway

The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, today (Thursday), September 17, 2026, inspected the ongoing work on the Salang Highway.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund described the highway as important for trade, transit, and connectivity between the capital, Kabul, and the northern provinces. He stressed that, given its importance, the work on the highway should be completed swiftly and to a high standard.
Officials from the Ministry of Public Works and the contracting companies assured the Deputy PM that work on the Salang Highway would be completed according to plan and in compliance with all required standards.
It is worth noting that major reconstruction work is currently underway on both the Northern and Southern Salang sections, with significant progress being made.
