Emphasis Placed on Controlling the Prices and Quality of Goods in the Country
A special meeting of the Economic Commission, chaired by the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, was held today (Tuesday), October 20, 2026, at the Marmarin Palace. The meeting held an extensive discussion on controlling the prices and quality of goods in the country.
Following a comprehensive assessment of the issue, it was decided that, in the provinces and districts, the consumer committees established under the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce should carry out their responsibilities in controlling the prices of goods more seriously, in accordance with the guidelines developed by the Ministry. In Kabul city, the committee established under the leadership of Kabul Municipality should likewise strengthen its efforts in this regard. Both committees are required to submit regular activity reports to the Tariff Committee.
Furthermore, regarding quality control, it was decided that the Food and Drug Deputy Ministry of the Ministry of Public Health should strengthen its activities at the country's commercial ports, while the Standard and Quality Authority should enhance its efforts to control the quality of imported goods. In addition, the Tariff Committee should increase tariffs on imported goods only when it has been established that sufficient quantities of similar domestically produced goods are available and that their quality meets accepted standards.
The Tariff Committee was also instructed to submit regular reports to the Economic Commission on the activities of the relevant committees and its own efforts to control the prices and quality of goods in the markets.
Moreover, the Economic Commission decided that anyone who violates the prescribed prices or the accepted quality standards must be dealt with in accordance with the laws, principles, and regulations in force.
