The 22nd Meeting of the Economic Commission Was Held
June 09, 2022
Mullah Abdul Ghani Beradar Akhund, Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, chaired 22nd meeting of the Economic Commission in which they discussed various issues in detail. In the commission a joint committee of representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Water and Energy, Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB), and the people of Farah province was established and tasked to take a closer look at the remaining work of Bakhshabad Dam in Farah. The committee was requested to report their findings to the next session of the Economic Commission.
The contract for the three tunnels of the dam was signed with a Turkish company in 1398. Some of its work has been done, but others are stalled due to non-collection of invoices. The tunnels were contracted for $11.8 million, of which $2.9 million was deposited with the company.
The meeting of the Economic Commission also directed the representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) to jointly work with the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and review the "Mining Law".
According to this law, the contracts will be given to those companies which have both the financial capabilities and technical capacities for mine extraction. The law is being reconsidered as some companies have recently criticized the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, saying that the ministry has not carried out the bidding process properly.
