Hajji Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, participated and delivered his speech at a gathering organized in regard to the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. Mr. Baradar Akhund said: Natural disasters are from Allah (SWT), and the duty of servants is to take measures. Unfortunately, the ongoing climate change and recent natural disasters have caused heavy and untimely rains in Afghanistan, as well as in other parts of the world, which have resulted in severe floods and human and financial losses to our people. Also, severe earthquakes occurred in the south-east of our country, which affected people greatly.

The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs added that the IEA tried to help the affected people and save their lives by using its existing possibilities. We thank all the responsible organizations for their day-and-night hard work.

He further added that, as the government, we are obliged to take care of the victims and be fully prepared to help them in the future. Now the IEA has developed sufficient ability to deal with the incidents.

The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs said that aid is still being provided to the victims of the earthquake in Paktika province, and I, as the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, declare that the royalties on building materials for building houses for the earthquake victims of Paktika province are exempted, and I call on the officials to facilitate the construction of houses for the affected citizens there.
